R28: k3, k2tog across, inc 1 st each side of each marker, continuing the k2tog across to the last 3 sts, k3

R29: repeat row 9, slip markers to right needle

R30: k across, inc 1 st each side of markers

R31: k3, p to 1st marker, place stitches between markers on stitch holder, continue to purl across to next marker, place stitches between markers on stitch holder, continue to purl to last 3 sts, k3.

R32: repeat row 8

R33: repeat row 9

R34: k across

R35: repeat row 7

R36: repeat row 8

R37: repeat row 9

Continue rows 34 through 37 until piece from armholes measures 3" ending with row 9. Knit next 6 rows. Bind off.

SLEEVES

From stitch holder, pick up one side of stitches and put onto needle.

R1: (WS) purl

R2: K1, k2tog across to end

R3: * k1, pick up st below and k, repeat from * to end

R4: k

Continue rows 1 through 4 until from armhole, piece measures 3" ending with row 4

Knit next 6 rows. Bind off, leaving 6-7" yarn (which will be used to sew sleeve seam)

Repeat for 2nd sleeve. With both sleeves identical, sew sleeve seam.

Crochet chain st for 25 - 27" and weave through eyelet for a tie at the neck of sweater. Or you may use a ribbon for the tie.

BONNET

Cast on 15 st, leaving about 16" tail of yarn which will be used to sew seam.

R1: k

R2: p

R3: k1, *k2tog across to end

R4: (WS) *k1, insert needle under horizontal strand of row below ( between sts) and k this st, repeat from * across to end

Repeat rows 1 through 4 for 2", ending with row 4 - while still on row 4, cast on 15 sts.

Next row - knit across, while still on end of this row, cast on 15 sts.

Next row - repeat row 3

Next row - repeat row 4.

Continue pattern of row 1 through 4 until piece measures 3 ½" from cast on sts.

Next row - p

Next row - k

Next row - repeat row 4

To add a brim, ****for a frillier brim, inc1st every 2 sts on the first row.

K each row until there are 3 ridges on the RS. Bind off. Sew Seams

NECKBAND FOR BONNET

(WS) Pick up and k 26 sts on bottom side, 9 sts from back, 26 sts from other bottom side.

Knit next 2 rows.

Right side - (eyelet) K1, *YO, k2tog, repeat from * to last st, YO, k1.

Knit next 2 rows. Bind off.

Crochet chain of 25 - 27" and weave through eyelet for a tie. Or you may use a ribbon for the tie.
